He first began a plow company in 1825 in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, selling the company to a brother after returning to Aurora after the death of his father. Along with a nephew, Daniel Humphrey Avery, he moved to Louisville, KY and began his new plow business in 1847. When Daniel moved on in 1850, the company was organized as B.F. Avery Plows. Operation was suspended during the Civil War, but reopened after the war as B.F. Avery & Sons, and now included his three sons. Benjamin Franklin Avery died in 1865, leaving the company to his sons and later family members. The first motorized machine for the company was the Louisville Motor Plow, a 20hp engine on a chassis with two plows mounted underneath, and was built from 1914-1917. In 1930, Avery began marketing tractors built for them by Huber Manufacturing of Marion, Ohio. Records indicate that 355 Huber tractors were delivered to Avery, mostly the Huber 20-36, and two Huber Light Four tractors. IN 1936, B.F. Avery developed a new tractor and approached Cleveland Tractor Co., or Cletrac, to manufacture it. Cletrac built the General GG three-wheeled tractor for B.F. Avery, and they were also sold by Massey-Harris and Montgomery Wards (Wards Twin-Row). Cletrac ceased building the General GG during World War II, and B.F. Avery acquired the equipment and began manufacturing it as the B.F. Avery A. During some lean years, B.F. Avery agreed to sell out to Minneapolis-Moline on January 8, 1951. Some of the B.F. Avery models continued in MM's lineup for a number of years, before the manufacturing facility in Louisville was closed for good in 1955. The factory was one of the largest factories in Louisville, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In quite good condition. Paperback. In exceptionally good condition 3. Avery, B. Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 46 pages full with writings about Friendship by the likes of Tennyson, Henry Ward Beecher, Edwin Markham, Richard Burton, Henry Van Dyke, Henry Drummond, Emerson, Longfellow, Francis Bacon, Austin Dobson, Shakespeare, Jeremy Taylor, George Eliot, Thomas Arnold, Ben Jonson, Shelley, Washington Irving, Talleyrand, Robert Hall, Robert Browning, Byron, William Penn, Walt Whitman, Marcus Aurelius, Robert Louis Stevenson, Benjamin Franklin, Cicero, and others still. This 1910 edition is fairly rare and the few others for sale are not in very good condition. This one is in rather decent condition, particularly taking into account its age. You can see the covers in the photos. They are soft leather, I believe. There are quite clean. They do have brown toning off the edges and on the spine. There's also a small loss at the top edge of the spine, and two small tears at the bottom edge of the spine. The gilt lettering and design on the front is nicely bright. The inside covers and end papers are green. There is a sliver of loss at the front end papers bottom corner. There is a second blank rear end paper right before the green one. At the front it appears that the blank second front end paper was torn out, a little paper remains to the side of the juncture. There's also a space between the blank side of the green front end paper and the facing half-title page. It just comes up from the bottom edge 1 1/2 inches or so. The pages are solidly bound. I have turned over all of the pages in the book and they are all solidly bound, and nicely tight at their junctures. There is a little space off the bottom edge between pages 42-43 and 44-45, but it only comes up 1/4 of an inch. And there is a thin space at the juncture between the last page, 46, and it's facing blank first rear end paper. It comes up about 2 inches from the bottom edge, but both pages are very solidly bound from top to bottom. The covers are also nicely, tightly bound, no issues at the juncture between the inside covers and their end papers. All of the pages are exceptionally clean. I didn't see any soiling at all. I have provided a photograph of the frontispiece and title page. The pages are also in quite good condition. The middle page edge is deckled or rough-cut. They did a good job. There is one instance of a thin tear off the middle edge, not near the print. I saw a few other tiny tears far from the print. And there are a few tiny edge nicks. I didn't see any creasing. There are no markings. There are no attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. 'What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?'-- George Eliot. 'Let us, then, be what we are, and speak what we think, and in all things Keep ourselves loyal to truth and the sacred professions of friendship.'-- Longfellow 'A brother may not be a friend, but a friend will always be a brother.'-- Benjamin Franklin.…

Fa-so-la or shape-note singing, a method of vocal instruction for choruses unaccompanied by instrumentation, arose from the Protestant Singing School movement during the early 1800s in New England but only became popular in the rural churches of Southern Appalachia where the tradition continues today in northern counties of Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Although not the earliest among the hundred or so shape-note tune books published since the mid-19th century, THE SACRED HARP, compiled by Benjamin Franklin White (1800-1879) and Elisha J. King (ca. 1821-1844) and first published in 1844, is undoubtedly the most influential hymnal in the movement. As preferences of shape note choral groups evolved and diverged during the late 1800s and early 1900s, White's and King's original compilation was amended and altered with some frequency including the derivative ORIGINAL SACRED HARP published in Atlanta, Georgia in August 1911 by reviser Joseph S. James and his music editor Seaborn McDaniel Denson. In turn, the James hymnal led to the first Denson Revision collaborated upon by Thomas Jackson Denson and Paine Denson which was issued in 1936 with, per OCLC, four successive editions for 1960, 1967, 1971, and 1997.
