Hardcover. Condizione: Good. UNCOMMON 1979 hardcover with dust jacket. NOT an ex-library book. UNREAD COPY with bright, unmarked pages. Jacket remains bright although shows chipping and edge tears. Not a remainder and not corner-clipped (still shows original 1979 cover price on front jacket flap). A good, sturdy, bright, and very useful copy of a great book on shotgun marksmanship and safety. 155 pages, includes index. "The aim of this book is to help shooters become not only good marksmen, but safe ones! The author begins by explaining the shotgun and the practical know-how of using it. He explains its parts and their functions. He insists upon the importance of the gun's being fitted to the owner. For instance, to buy a gun in summer clothing immediately creates a problem. On a winter hunting outing he will probably be wearing a heavy jacket over a thick sweater which will result in a full quarter of an inch difference in the length of the stock or the distances from the center of the front trigger, to the heel, middle, and toe of the butt. Gun weight is also an important factor in buying a gun. Just as a person can have too heavy a gun to shoot his best, so too he can also have too light a gun. The importance of stance, footwork, and the proper use of the hands is meticulously explained because good shooting is a matter of adept coordination. There is an entire chapter devoted to the special considerations for young shooters. The author warns that safety rules must be taught as well as certain legal restrictions. Every parent of an aspiring young shooter should be aware of these and see that his offspring is also. In order to dispel the many myths and misunderstandings that have arisen about cartridges and their performance the author details the kinds of cartridges used and their characteristics as well as the importance of a happy marriage between gun and cartridge. This book should help the reader develop his talens as a marksman, his reverence for gun and quarry, and his self-confidence.".
