Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt deshalb der Analyse von Platons Vorstellungen vom Einfluss des Körpers auf die Seele, vom Status der Ideen, von den Voraussetzungen der Beweise für die Unsterblichkeit der Seele und der Deutung des Mythos am Schluss des Dialogs. Die Werkinterpretation klärt über die Struktur des Dialogs und seine wesentlichen Ergebnisse auf und erhellt den religiösen und kulturellen Hintergrund der Diskussion. Ein Hauptaugenmerk gilt dabei den Textstellen, an denen sich Platon mit Skizzierungen seiner Argumente und Intentionen begnügt und die sich dem heutigen Verständnis nur schwer erschließen.
