Der Münchner Vertrag von 1938 war eines der europäischen Schlüsselereignisse des 20. Jahrhunderts. Angesichts der Bedeutung und Brisanz dieses Vertrages, der in der internationalen Diplomatie schrittweise zurückgenommen wurde, ist es nicht erstaunlich, dass seine Vorgeschichte, Entstehung und Folgen inzwischen gut erforscht sind. Die Wirkungsgeschichte von 'München', die in den einzelnen europäischen Ländern zum Teil ganz unterschiedlich wahrgenommen wurde, ist dagegen bisher erst wenig thematisiert worden. Nach dem Umbruch von 1989 wurde es endlich möglich, die divergierenden Positionen, Interpretationen und Erwartungen, die Missverständnisse und Vorurteile in der Erinnerung an die Ereignisse von 1938 im europäischen Vergleich zu diskutieren und aufzuarbeiten. Der Band zeigt, wie in Frankreich, Großbritannien, Italien, Deutschland, Polen und nicht zuletzt der Tschechoslowakei Mythen entstanden, die mit dem Schlagwort 'München' verbunden sind. Als Chiffre für die unterschiedlichsten politischen Interessen wirkte 'München' auf die weitere politische, aber auch historiographische Entwicklung ein und hat seine Aktualität bis heute in Öffentlichkeit und Wissenschaft nicht verloren. Ce parcours répartit les différentes périodes étudiées de part et d'autre d'un point de bascule : celui qui sépare l'époque où le serment est placé sous l'autorité de Dieu et de son représentant le Prince, et l'époque où, laïc, il repose sur le lien qui unit le citoyen à une abstraction, par exemple la Constitution de la nation dont il est le sujet. Der vorliegende Band beinhaltet die Beiträge zu zwei internationalen Tagungen (Wien 2017 und Mainz 2018). Er ist das Ergebnis eines dreijährigen interdisziplinären Forschungsprojekts von Wissenschaftlern und Nachwuchsforschern unterschiedlicher Fachrichtungen aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern. Das Projekt befasste sich mit dem Eid als performativem öffentlichem Akt, der die Person, die ihn leistet, physisch bindet, und beinhaltet Fallstudien von der frühen Neuzeit bis zur Gegenwart. So wird auch eine interessante Umbruchzeit mit behandelt: von einer Epoche, in der der Eid unter die Aufsicht Gottes und seines Vertreters, des Fürsten, gestellt war, zu einer Epoche, in der er, in säkularisierter Form, den Bürger an eine abstrakte Größe - etwa die Verfassung der Nation - band und bis heute bindet.

The 1940 film "Der ewige Jude" is a propaganda documentary about the world Jewry after an idea b…y Eberhard Taubert. As part of Goebbels' anti-Semitic strategy this film followed the 1937 art exhibition "Der ewige Jude" in Munich, and the publication of a book in the same year and with the same title, both with derogatory captions asserting the "degenerate Jewish race." Goebbels took an active role in the production of the film and insisted on Fritz Hippler as the director for the film. After the invasion of Poland Goebbels instructed Hippler to send camera crews to Poland to collect footage of Polish Jews. The film starts with an "impressive" foray through the Jewish ghettos in Poland, depicting the Jews in filthy living conditions making a living through profiteering instead of honest work. The footage was manipulated in a way to show the Jews as originating in Palestine and from there flooding the earth, drawing parallels to the way rats spread through new territory, stressing the Jew's ability to adapt to various life styles. The promotional is illustrated with photomontages depicting Jews from various walks of life, Polish street scenes, a Rabbi holding up a knife, in line with the brutal depiction of a Shechita as the face of Jewry, juxtaposed with gleaming pictures of content German people and thankfulness towards a government willing to solve the "Jewish problem." Text in German. Illustrated wraps with some wear, horizontal fold, small creases and chips along edges and covers reinforced with transparent tape; administered with a quarter inch tape along inside edges, along bottom and foredge on back cover. Same with centerfold along bottom and foredges.
