Aggiungi al carrelloA very handsomely bound volume with the ownership inscription and expert mathematical annotation by Dublin born mathematician Robert William Genese (18481928) who matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge and graduated as the 8th Wrangler in the Mathematical Tripos of 1871, receiving his MA in 1874. He subsequently served for… 40 years as a professor of mathematics at University College Wales, Aberystwyth. In very good contemporary roan boards tooled to the edges and six panelled spine in gilt. Sound and square. Double comb marbled endpapers very fresh with gilt border featuring a repeating fan like motif. Text block age toned as expected with very light foxing to preliminaries. A lightly crossed over ownership inscription to the title page reads, 'R W Genese. St. John's College. Cambridge'. A more recent ownership inscription dated 1958 is that of 'V G Brown, Surrey'. Occasional annotation throughout the entire text block by Genese. The errata leaf has had c15 additional entries added in black ink in a contemporary hand, 'a mistake' is written in pencil to top of p.222 and additional formulaic calculations and observations sit to the margins throughout. 471 pp. Please contact Christian White Rare Books Ltd for more information or images of this item.
