Hij vertelde dit in zijn geschiedkundige werk, wat getuigt van zijn betrokkenheid bij belangrijke gebeurtenissen in de Tachtigjarige Oorlog.Er is geen bewijs dat Jan de Witte / Jean le Blancq een echt bestaand figuur was. Zijn winkeladres werd op titelpagina's vermeld als "inde Papestraet, in den (Beslagen) Bybel" het huis?/uithangteken van zijn zaak. Meuris trad op in de voorhoede van de Haagse boekhandel. In 1619 vroeg hij samen met landsdrukker Hillebrant van Wouw het privilege aan om de stukken van de Nationale Synode van Dordrecht te mogen drukken; het octrooi ging uiteindelijk naar een Dordtse drukker. .
