At the time, child labor was a widespread problem in the United States, with many children being forced to work long hours in dangerous conditions, often for very low wages. Children worked in factories, mines, and agriculture, and their exploitation was considered a national crisis. The National Child Labor Committee was established in 1904 to combat the issue of child labor, and they worked tirelessly to advocate for child labor laws and to raise public awareness of the issue. Child Labor Day was one of their initiatives to bring attention to the problem.
