Il periodico pubblica dal 6 aprile 1831 (a. I, n. 1) al 28 dicembre 1839 (a. IX, n. 52). Assorbe, all'inizio del 1832, un foglio omonimo. Nel 1840 si fonde con il «Foglio commerciale di Milano» per dar vita al «Foglio commerciale e d'industria». PeriodicitÃ: settimanale, poi bisettimanale poi settimanale. A ogni numero à allegato il «Prezzo corrente della piazza di Milano» (13 aprile 1831, a. I, n. 1), settimanale di due pagine. Quando il «Termometro» diviene bisettimanale, l'allegato esce solo il sabato (non presente in questa raccolta); quando poi il «Termometro» torna ad uscire una volta la settimanale il «Prezzo» esce autonomamente."Sul primo numero l'editore Luigi Nervetti, che pubblica anche il mensile «L'Ape delle cognizioni utili» e un «Listino delle sete», dichiara di volersi rifare alla ormai lontana esperienza degli «Annali di commercio». Annuncia cosà che "ritorna dopo vari anni a ricomparire questo giornale che delle cose mercantili e d'industria deve particolarmente occuparsi"; esso "verserà su tutte le cose che si riferiscono al movimento generale del traffico. Indicherà quindi le variazioni pià rimarchevoli nei prezzi dei generi sulle piazze principali, le fiere e il loro andamento, i raccolti dei prodotti, le nuove ragioni mercantili, le cessazioni del commercio, i fallimenti, le proposizione di compra e di vendita, gli effetti pubblici ed altri [sic] simili indicazioni che si riferiscono alla pratica del traffico. La teoria mercantile verrà poi sviluppata in singoli e ripartiti articoli in modo che il giovine iniziato rinvenga istruzioni, ed il provetto negoziante trovi con che facilitare le sue operazioni. La parte industre non verrà dimenticata, e percià si accenneranno succintamente le utili scoperte, le invenzioni e i miglioramenti sà nelle arti che nelle manifatture, come pure nell'agricoltura ["]. Inoltre non si tralascerà di dare di tempo in tempo articoli sulla moda, perchà essa si lega troppo coll'industria e col traffico, e sui teatri divenuti ormai oggetto di grandiose imprese speculative. Il commercio librajo non sarà dimenticato in verun conto" (Introduzione, 6 aprile 1831). Il giornale si compone di corrispondenze commerciali da tutta Europa e di una parte scientifica; pubblica poi il calendario di partenze ed arrivi delle navi mercantili, ricerche di capitali, tariffe daziarie, leggi sul commercio, testi di giurisprudenza mercantile e di economia politica. Attinge per le notizie anche a diversi giornali commerciali della penisola. Il «Prezzo corrente» contiene tabelle su tutte le mercanzie estere e nazionali, sui cambi, sul valore degli effetti pubblici e sul corso abusivo delle valute. Il 7 gennaio 1832 s'informano i lettori che un foglio omonimo, fino ad allora pubblicato "a pro dei minori Pianta per cura del di loro tutore signor Giovanni Bisesti, à stato riunito al presente". Alla fine del 1838 annuncia una nuova ripartizione delle materie sia nel supplemento (con l'aggiunta di nuove derrate, di un bollettino ristretto in calce con le notizie pià interessanti e di una breve rivista del mercato della piazza di Milano), sia nel «Termometro», nel quale la parte commerciale ("Corrispondenza mercantile"), la moda e le imprese teatrali saranno d'ora in poi distinte dalla parte industriale ("Industria patria"), che si occuperà di meccanica, chimica applicata alle arti, sericoltura, agricoltura e delle maggiori produzioni nazionali oltre che di stampa, statistica, teoria del traffico e delle arti, economia pubblica e privata. Nelle intenzioni dell'editore il giornale dovrebbe avvalersi di nuovi collaboratori e contenere anche tavole e disegni. Di fatto, perà , non si ha alcun esemplare del rinnovato supplemento, mentre nel «Termometro» del 1839 à ancora la parte commerciale a occupare quasi tutto lo spazio.
