Professor für französische Literatur in Bern. Nach dem Erscheinen seines Werks 'La démocratie et la Suisse' (1929) musste er 1931 von seinem Lehrstuhl zurücktreten. Er nahm den Ruf der Universität Freiburg an und lehrte hier 1932-1950 (etc.; HLS) - "Auf Ersuchen von General Ulrich Wille baute Reynold 1914 den Vortragsdienst der Armee auf und leitete diesen bis 1918. Er stellte sich hinter Carl Spittelers Rede 'Unser Schweizer Standpunkt' von 1914 und publizierte [Werke], in denen er ein konservatives, auf der Geschichte und Geografie beruhendes Bild der Schweiz entwarf. [.] Die jüngere Geschichtsschreibung sieht in Reynold den Vordenker aller rechten Bewegungen in der Schweiz von den 1910er bis in die 40er Jahre. Sie wirft ihm seine politischen Einschätzungen und seine Aufrufe zur Anpassung vor, anerkennt aber, dass er zu den Fronten Distanz hielt und dem Faschismus und Nationalsozialismus ablehnend gegenüberstand."
