Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. London: John Lane, The Bodley Head, Boston: Copeland & Day, 1895, First Edition. Vol VII ONLY. Single volume in the original black decorated yellow cloth binding, with the contents to the rear board and illustrations to both, spine a little faded, many pages uncut, 20 tissue guarded plates (tissues foxed) by Frank Bramley, Stanhope A. Forbes, Frank Richards and Walter Langley. Some of the pages creased. First edition. The Yellow Book was a British literary periodical released quarterly between 1894 and 1897. It was a leading journal of the decade, with writers such as Kenneth Grahame, H. G. Wells, W. B. Yeats, Sir Edmund Gosse and Henry James contributing. The periodical was notable for publishing many female authors and illustrators within, including Ella D'Arcy, George Egerton, Ada Leverson and Ethel Reed. John Lane and Elkin Mathews, the founders of The Bodley Head, published this artistic and often controversial periodical. It differed from other contemporary periodicals by having no advertisements bar publishers' lists, and it was published clothbound. The Yellow Book became notorious when it was rumoured that Oscar Wilde, who never published within it but knew many people who had, was carrying a copy on his arrest at the Cadogan Hotel in 1895, although the veracity of this rumour has never been confirmed. Aubrey Beardsley was the original art editor of the work (1872-1898); he was an English illustrator who contributed to the development of the Art Nouveau style, known for his grotesque, decadent and erotic depictions inspired by Japanese woodcuts. Other illustrators within include Walter Sickert, Charles Conder and John Singer Sargent. First Edition, second issue; lacking the advertisements as called for in the first issue. Complete with all the illustrations called for in the contents, pagination includes the illustration. Pagination: contents page, half title, tissue guarded title, half title to the Beerbohm story, 10-342pp. Provenance: no inscriptions or bookplates. Approximately 8 ¼ inches (21cm) tall. Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -'The Lonely Dancer and Other Poems' by Richard Le Gallienne is a collection that delves into the intricate tapestry of human emotions, the passage of time, and the beauty of nature. The poems are divided into several sections, each exploring different themes such as love, loss, the changing seasons, and the eternal cycle of life and death. Le Gallienne's work is characterized by its lyrical beauty and profound introspection, often drawing on natural imagery to convey complex emotional states. The titular poem, 'The Lonely Dancer,' reflects on the ephemeral nature of life and the enduring power of music and dance as metaphors for existence. Other poems in the collection, such as 'To a Bird at Dawn' and 'April,' celebrate the renewal and promise of spring, while pieces like 'Winter' and 'The Mystic Friends' contemplate the quietude and introspection of the colder months. Le Gallienne's poetry is marked by a deep sensitivity to the world around him, capturing both the fleeting and the eternal in his verses. His work invites readers to reflect on their own experiences and the universal themes of love, beauty, and the passage of time.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 60 pp. Englisch.…
