Prima edizione
First edition. 9.75 x 9.75 inches. 256 pages. Profusely illustrated in color. Original cloth; printed wraparound band. "The German-born Venezuelan artist Gego (1912-1994) was renowned for her abstract drawings, prints, threedimensional works, hanging net pieces, and wire constructions. In 1999, a folder was found in a storage trunk that had belonged to Gego, with the word Sabiduras (loosely translated as "Words of Wisdom") written on the cover, containing previously unknown texts, word poems, and notes by the artist. Subsequently, additional short texts by the artist were discovered in the archives of the Gego Foundation. This important book assembles all of these writings together for the first time, providing an unprecedented look into Gego's philosophies of art and religion, her creative thought process, and her vast knowledge. In these texts, Gego was engaged with the line as an essential element in her research and creations; the aesthetics of transparency; art as enjoyment and pleasure for the artist and for the public; and the importance of education and training for everyone. The texts in this book are published in both English and Spanish (and in some cases German, which was Gego's native language) and are preceded by introductory notes. Reproductions of some of the original texts, plans for unfulfilled projects, and previously unpublished photographs are also featured. Sabiduras and Other Texts will undoubtedly motivate students, scholars, and anyone interested in the art of Latin America to learn more about Gego's contributions to modern art. Distributed for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, International Center for the Arts of the Americas, and the Gego Foundation" (the publisher). Generally a clean copy; wraparound band with some very minor wear and a small tear.

[52] pp.; 21 x 24 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white; edition size unkown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed Two volume exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with two-part show held March 14 ? May 18, 2014 and May 25 ? August 3. "Other Primary Structures revisited the premise of and built upon the Museum''s seminal 1966 exhibition Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, the first American museum exhibition to survey the style now known as Minimalism. Primary Structures introduced the public to such artists as Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Walter De Maria, Robert Morris, and others--figures unknown at the time but soon to become synonymous with a radically new approach to sculpture. Nearly 50 years later, Other Primary Structures revisits this formative moment in art history while also reexamining the period from today''s far more global perspective. "Presented in two parts, the first part of the exhibition titled Others 1, examined work created between 1960 and 1967, while Others 2, on view from May 25 ? August 3, presented work created between 1967 and 1970, some of which was directly influenced by the 1966 Primary Structures exhibition at the Jewish Museum." -- publisher''s statement. This publication includes a faithful reprint of the original 1966 catalogue published in conjunction with show held April 27 - June 12, 1966. Essay by exhibition''s curator Kynaston McShine. Prima edizione
First edition. 10 x 10 inches. 304 pages. Profusely illustrated in color. Original pictorial boards. "Gego (1912-1994) pioneered a new direction in art with her innovative sculptures of the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Germany as Gertrud Goldschmidt, she fled the Nazi regime and moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she absorbed modernist trends but ultimately forged her own artistic path. Exploring the concept of the line, space, and time, she linked pieces of metal to create weblike geometric forms, which she called drawings in space. These experiments culminated in Reticulárea, a massive netlike sculptural installation first presented at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, in 1969. This groundbreaking work had major repercussions in the art world and marked a turning point in Gego's career. Centered on the various iterations of this work and its artistic impact, this anthology brings together images as well as documentary materials and primary texts in English and Spanish by artists, writers, and Gego" (the publisher).
