Keys for the identification of the different species are included. References are also given to extralimital species occurring close to the limits of the area of study. His New Philologyapproach and digital edition of these refined poems, heavily rewritten by the poet in subsequent versions still traceable in manuscripts today, was met with great approval, although his methodology was subject to some critical questions. He was awarded the doctorate cum laude. (.) Gelderblom heeft niet alleen een dissertatie afgeleverd over het ontstaan van (de verschillende fases en redacties van) Secundus? gedichten maar ook een digitale teksteditie waarin alle varianten naast elkaar te raadplegen zijn. Voor beide heeft Gelderblom uitgebreid studie gemaakt van de in Oxford bewaarde kladjes van de gedichten in Secundus? werkmanuscript en van de correcties die de auteur zelf er later in aanbracht. Die uitputtende filologische akribie is zeker de voornaamste, maar waarschijnlijk toch niet de enige reden dat zijn werk met veel lof (en letterlijk cum laude) werd bekroond. (.) Via zijn studie van de verschillende auteursvarianten probeert hij als het ware over de schouder van de dichter mee te kijken, in een poging om erachter te komen wat Secundus bewogen moet hebben bij het steeds weer aanpassen en verder verfijnen van zijn poëzie.
