(Wikipedia). Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the remarkable world of German carnival plays composed during the 15th century, shedding light on their significance within the broader literary and historical context of the time. The author has meticulously analyzed 121 plays, providing an in-depth examination of their diverse themes, characters, and literary styles. Through a close reading of these texts, the book uncovers the rich tapestry of medieval German society, its customs, beliefs, and social dynamics. The carnival plays, often infused with humor, satire, and social commentary, offer a unique glimpse into the lives of people from all walks of life, from peasants and craftsmen to knights and nobles. They reflect the vibrant culture of the late Middle Ages, where the boundaries between the sacred and the profane, the serious and the comical, blurred. The book explores the ways in which these plays functioned as vehicles for social critique, entertainment, and moral instruction, highlighting their importance as cultural artifacts that illuminate the complexities of pre-Reformation Germany. By examining the plays' depictions of everyday life, power structures, and religious beliefs, the book provides valuable insights into the social and political landscape of the time. It also analyzes the literary techniques employed by playwrights and discusses the evolution of dramatic forms during this period. The book concludes by emphasizing the lasting legacy of these carnival plays, demonstrating their enduring relevance as historical documents and works of literary merit. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
