Aggiungi al carrellohardcover. Condizione: Very good. third edition. Two volumes large octavos, blind-stamped brown cloth. Wear at cover edges, near Very Good. {Howes C-241; Wagner-Camp 84.5; Sabin 11536} "Catlin illustrated his book with line-cut reductions of his original paintings, and in the text described his adventurous years among the Indians. He recorded his observations of ceremonies, dances, hunting methods, forms of warfare, and the ways of daily living among the major tribes of the high plains and the Rocky Mountains" -- Wagner / Camp / Becker, 84. William Clark -- he of Lewis & Clark fame--testified that "I have seen Mr. Catlin's Collection of Portraits of Indians, east of the Rocky Mountains, many of which were familiar to me, and painted in my presence: as far as they have included Indians of my acquaintance, the likenesses are easily recognized, bearing the most striking resemblance to the originals, as well as faithful representations of their costumes." Among the many images are three maps, one folding. 052507A Americana, Native Americans. Catlin, George (illustratore).…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Two, volumes, complete set. C. 1892. Printed by W. & A. K. Johnston, Edinburgh & London. This would appear, judging by the covers, to be the 1892 reprint edition, but lacks the expected statement on the verso front endpapers, or elsewhere. It also differs in that it contains the full suite of plates, and maps, in colour. Original ribbed green cloth hard covers, with gilt titling to spines. Top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Patterned endpapers. Light shelf-wear and rubbing to cloth; short surface scratch to lower rear of volume II. Covers slight bowed, and edges toned and a little foxed. Otherwise clean, tight and unmarked, internally bright and fine. Very neat -- a sound and handsome set.…
