Weltkrieg w…urde der TLL in das Kloster Scheyern ausgelagert; Dittmann blieb offenbar auch nach seiner Pensionierung dort. --- Gerichtet an den Bibliothekar Paul Geissler (1897-1992), seit 1946 Direktor der Staats- und Stadtbibliothek Augsburg, der von 1924 bis 1926 als Assistent am Thesaurus Linguae Latinae tätig gewesen war. --- Ohne Nennung seines Namens; der Brief stammt jedoch aus einer Sammlung von Briefen an Paul Geissler. --- Betrifft einen Bücher-Diebstahl. --- Erwähnt ist seine Ehefrau, die Bibliothekarin Rose Dittmann, geboren von Aichberger. --- Umfang: zwei Seiten (29,7 x 21 cm); ohne Umschlag. --- Auszüge: "Lieber, vereehrter Herr Kollege, heute komme ich mit einer Anfrage besonderer und nicht erfreulicher Art. Vor einigen Wochen sind mir vom Speicher meiner hiesigen Wohnung 2 Kisten mit wertvollen, wissenschaftlichen Büchern gestohlen worden, als ich mit meiner Frau längere Zeit in München war. Für die Täterschaft kommt nur eine damals im gleichen Hause wohnende, am 30.4. nach Ingolstadt verzogene Person inbetracht. Die Verdachtsmomente sind so stark, dass die Polizei schon mehrfach [.] die richterliche Genehmigung zur Haussuchung erhalten hat. Ergeben hat sich aber dabei nicht direkt Beweisendes. Die Antiquariate in München, Ingolstadt, Regensburg sind teils von uns, teils von der Kriminalpolizei gewarnt worden. Möglich wäre es natürlich auch, dass die Bücher ganz oder teilweise einer öffentlichen Bibliothek durch einen Mittelsmann zum Kauf angeboten werden. Aichberger u. teilweise einen Ex-libris darstellend das Isartal, kenntlich sind. Juli 1956 in Aschau im Chiemgau) war ein deutscher Klassischer Philologe. Er war langjähriger Mitarbeiter und von 1912 bis 1936 Generalredaktor sowie von 1936 bis 1947 Geschäftsführer des Thesaurus Linguae Latinae. Leben: Dittmann studierte von 1889 bis 1894 an den Universitäten Göttingen und Berlin Klassische Philologie. Er wurde während des Studiums Mitglied des Philologisch-Historischen Vereins Göttingen im Naumburger Kartellverband. Schon nach seinem Examen 1894 wurde er von seinem akademischen Lehrer Friedrich Leo als Mitarbeiter für das noch junge Unternehmen Thesaurus Linguae Latinae gewonnen. Nach seiner Promotion in Göttingen im Jahr 1900 zog Dittmann mit der Zusammenlegung des Thesaurus-Büros nach München. 1903 ging er als Wissenschaftlicher Assistent nach Göttingen zurück; 1904 trat er zusätzlich eine Stelle als Oberlehrer an. Als er 1912 zum Generalredaktor des Thesaurus berufen wurde, zog er endgültig nach München. Seit 1923 war er korrespondierendes Mitglied der Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften. Die Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften ernannte ihn 1924 zum ordentlichen Mitglied ihrer Philosophisch-Historischen Klasse. Dittmann war in den wirtschaftlich unsicheren Jahren seiner Ägide bemüht, das Thesaurus-Unternehmen zügig voranzutreiben. In den 30er Jahren stellte er zahlreiche junge Philologen ein, darunter Wolf-Hartmut Friedrich, Heinz Haffter (der 1947 Generalredaktor des Projektes wurde) und Otto Skutsch. Signatur des Verfassers.
