Diese Fortschritte beruhten weniger auf der Einfuhrung grundlegend neuer Ver fahren als vielmehr au…f einer Verbesserung und Weiterentwicklung bisheriger Verfahren. Nur durch Mitarbeit zahlreicher Fachleute, die ihre Erfahrungen und ihr Wissen zur Verfugung stellten, war es moglich, das Gebiet der Metallurgie der Ferrolegierungen um die Metallurgie der reinen Stahlveredlungsmetalle zu er weitern und vollstandig zu erfassen. Wir folgten damit einer Anregung von Professor DURRER, der es fur unerlaBlich hielt, auch die zweite erweiterte Auflage als 'team work' der Fachleute erarbeiten zu lassen. Den der ersten Auflage anhaftenden Nachteil der Inhomogenitat, verursacht durch die groBe Anzahl der Mitarbeiter, versuchten wir durch angleichende Dberarbeitung der einzelnen Kapitel zu beheben. 1m speziellen Teil wurde z. B. jedem Kapitel die thermodynamische Grundlage vorangestellt. Um Dberschnei dungen zu vermeiden, war es oft notig, die Einzelangaben der Autoren z. T. schon in einem vorangestellten Kapitel, wie z. B. bei den Rohstoffen, zusammen zufassen. Unser Dank gilt den Autoren, die es trotz starker beruflicher lnanspruchnahme auf sich nahmen, einzelne Kapitel zu schreiben. Weiterhin danken wir zahl reichen lndustriefirmen, die es ihren Mitarbeitern ermoglichten, ihre Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen diesem Buch zugute kommen zu lassen.
