Title continues: "Or A detection of the Aspersions and Scandals cast upon Sir Robert Clatton and Sir George Treby, Justices; and Slingsby Bethell and Henry Cornish Esquires, Sheriffs, of the City of London, In a Paper published in the Name of Dr. Francis Hawkins Minister of the Tower, Intituled, The Confession of Edward Fitz-Harris Esq; &c. The Coppy of which Paper is herewith Printed, for the Readers clearer judgment in the Case." Wing T2107. Sir George Treby (1644? - 1700) was Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and six times Member of Parliament for the "Rotten Borough" of Plympton Erle, Devon. Treby acted as chairman of the Committee of Secrecy dedicated to investigating the supposed Popish Plot. The prosecution of Fitzharris (1648? - 1681) for involvement in the plot became a struggle for jurisdiction involving the courts and the two Houses of Parliament. He was executed for treason in 1681.
