"Die Inseln, welch…e ich hier beschreibe, wurden nicht auf einer absichtlich zur Erweiterung der Wissenschaft angestellten Reise, sondern zufällig, durch den Schiffbruch eines von Kapitän Wilson geführten ostindischen Paketbootes oder Postschiffes, entdeckt. Einzig und allein dem gutgearteten Charakter der dortigen Einwohner verdanken wir die glückliche Wiederkunft unserer Landsleute, welche sich auf dem Postschiff befanden." So beginnt Keate seine Vorrede zu dem 1788 erstmals in London erschienen Bericht vom Schiffbruch der "Antelope" vor den Palau-Inseln in der Südsee. Einer der bedeutendsten Weltreisenden der deutschen Literatur, Georg Foster, der James Cook bei seiner Reise um die Welt begleitet hatte, übersetzte das Buch in deutsche Prosa. Édition originale de la traduction française de cette relation composée par l'écrivain et poète George Keate (1729-1797) à partir des journaux et des communications de Henry Wilson, capitaine de l'Antelope qui fit naufrage en août 1783 sur un récif près de Koror. Elle parut la même année que l'originale anglaise.
