Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Gerald Cumberland (pseudonym of Charles Frederick Kenyon, 1879-1926). Set down in malice: a book of reminiscences. London: Grant Richards & Co., 1919. First reprint, March 1919. 286pp. VG. Maroon board with gilt lettering to front and spine (now a little faded). A little foxing of endpapers, but text all clean and bright. Kenyon was a librettist, a writer of essays and of some pieces of police literature. In 1919 he used the pseudonym Gerald Cumberland to publish his "Books of Reminiscences", two important critical essays on musical life in England. Set Down in Malice was partly based on his two extensive interviews (1906 and 1913) of Edward Elgar and also describes a meeting with G.B.Shaw as A Terrible Walk. His portrayal of Elgar had a profound influence on the composer's reception for many years, and the book remains an essential part of the Elgar bibliography.
