To an unidentified recipient about the healing power of music, especially in the treatment of sleepwalking, giving a short review of past authors who have expressed their views on this subject: "Daß Musik zu Heilzwecken verwendet werden kann - selbstverständlich in ganz individueller Behandlung - unterlieg…t keinem Zweifel. Ihre intensivste Wirkung äußerst sie bei Somnambulen. Sie ist sogar Steigerungsmittel des Somnambulismus. Unsere Zeit darf sich aber der Sache nicht als neuer Entdeckung rühmen. 1807 erschien in Wien eine Schrift von Lichtenthal 'Der musikalische Arzt' und in Prof. Kluge's Schrift 'Versuch einer Darstellung des animalischen Magnetismus als Heilmittel' nimmt das Literaturverzeichnis über diesen Gegenstand (S. 393) eine ganze Seite ein. Es sind Schriften aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert [.]".
