The book describes a large scale walk-off of British servicemen at Durban docks from a troopship bound for Singapore in early 1942 prompted by disgust at the ship's sanitary condition. Courts martial followed and those convicted were sent on to India. But those who remained on the b…oard (the majority) ended up as POWs following the Japanese capture of Singapore and the Dutch East Indies. The South African background is explained and some details are obtained from the recollections of participants who.left, or stayed aboard, the ship at Durban. 148 pages.
