Sie ist dort die dritte Halle, die den Namen des in Bonn geborenen Komponisten Ludwig van Beet…hoven trägt. Die erste Beethovenhalle entstand 1845 anlässlich der Einweihung des Beethoven-Denkmals auf dem Münsterplatz, die zweite 1870 zu Ludwig van Beethovens 100. Geburtstag. Nach der Zerstörung dieser Halle im Zweiten Weltkrieg begannen 1950 die ersten Aktivitäten zum Neubau. Die dritte Beethovenhalle wurde nach den Plänen und unter der Leitung von Siegfried Wolske gebaut. Im September 1959 wurde sie fertiggestellt und ist seitdem ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt und eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke der jungen Bundesrepublik. Die wichtigste Aufgabe der Beethovenhalle ist die Pflege der Musik Ludwig van Beethovens. Sie ist die "Heimathalle" des Beethoven Orchesters Bonn. Die Eröffnungs- und Schlusskonzerte des Beethovenfestes finden in ihrem Großen Saal statt.
