Zum physikalischen Verstiindnis wird in Kurze die klassische Me thode der Analyse von vorgegebenen nicht-opt…imalen Brechzahlprofilen vorgefuhrt und in die sehr umfangreiche Literatur eingefiihrt. Die Feld verteilungen sind im Falle der sogenannten Stufenindexfaser mit Hilfe von Zylinderfunktionen darstellbar. In optimalen Fasern sind die Impulsverzerrungen uber der Frequenz einzuebnen. Es ergeben sich dann als Losungen optimale Profile fUr die Brechzahl. Die Feldverteilungen werden ebenfalls gefunden und darge stellt, als Ergebnis von numerischen Rechnungen, ohne naherungsweise Benutzung von Standard-Funktionen, die unwichtig geworden sind. Auf diesen Umstand sei besonders verwiesen. Auf die numerische Behand lung der Optimierungsaufgabe mit Hilfe von Standard-Algorithmen wird groBer Wert gelegt. Das Buch entstand aus Vorlesungen fur Studenten nach dem Vor diplom, an die es sich auch wendet: An Elektrotechniker und Physiker sowie Informatiker und Mathematiker mit Interesse an der Technik.
