Äußerst seltene einzige Ausgabe. Verfasserin des Werks ist Aurélie Soubiran, verheiratete Prinzessin Ghika (1820-1904). Aus kleinen Verhältnissen stammend, verfügte sie dennoch über eine gute Bildung und begann schon mit 20 Jahren schriftstellerisch tätig zu sein. Im literarischen Salon von Gavarni lernte sie in jungem Alter Balzac, Alphonse Karr und Alexandre Dumas kennen. Durch die Heirat mit dem Prinzen Grigore Ghika, Gospodar der Walachei, wandelte sich ihr Leben grundlegend. Die geplante Gründung des Königreichs Rumänien durch die Fusion der Fürstentümer Moldavien und Walachei machten Grigore zu einem der ersten Anwärter auf den Königsthron. Aurélie ging mit ihrem Mann nach Rumänien und veröffentlichte in den folgenden 10 Jahren zahlreiche Werke über ihre neue Heimat und wurde so zur Botschafterin ihres Landes in West- und Mitteleuropa. Bei einem gemeinsamen Besuch 1859 in Paris verunglückte der Prinz allerdings tödlich. Kurz danach zog die junge Witwe wieder nach Frankreich, wo sie sich bis an ihr Lebensende in ihren ursprünglichen Heimatort Lectoure (Normandie) zurückzog. Auch dort blieb sie weiter gesellschaftlich und schriftstellerisch aktiv.
