This Italian way has succeeded, through a complex and hesitant process of industrial innovation and technological renewal, in developing an independent and multifaceted design culture, capable of combining the country's rich artisanal tradition with an often fiercely opposed aspiration to modernity, characterized by flashes of improvisation and irony, and coupled with a lively propensity for experimentation. In this sense, the history of Italian design has not yet been the subject of a comprehensive interpretation of the phenomenon's cultural and artistic dimensions. In particular, little has been said so far about the synergy between artistic experimentation and innovative design that characterized the entire 20th century. This volume aims to offer a first overview of these connections through an exploration of the different ways of seeing, interpreting, and representing industrial society in Italy by the architects, artists, and designers who lived through its birth and who, in a certain sense, invented it. This catalogue was published on the occasion of the Rovereto exhibition (Mart, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, 3 March - 3 June 2007). In good condition throughout.
