The first part of the volume is a descriptive bibliography of the sixty-seven books illustrated by Gibbings; and the second lists his work as artist, writer, printer and publisher in chronological order, and also records some publications containing references to his work. There is a note on the printing methods of the Golden Cockerel Press, contributed by A. C. Cooper who was pressman throughout the period of Gibbings' direction. Written by A. Published the year after Robert Gibbing's death, Empson's collection offers the most definitive gathering of Gibbing's wood engravings, featuring over 1000 prints with numerous engravings published for the first time. Th influential wood engraver Peter Reddick is most known for his illustrations in the work of Thomas Hardy and Anthony Trollope. He was a Gregynog arts fellow between 1979 and 1980. Also slotted inside is an additional print, small and unidentified, and a 1958 article on the death of Robert Gibbings.
