A lighthearted poem to thank the publisher and author Maurice Delamain for his hospitality and to express the author's hopes of meeting again in the near future. The first two stanzas read: "Votre chaude hospitalité, / L'excellence de votre thé, / M'ont un peu brouilli la memoire, // Je suis parti le crâne nu / En oubliant sous une armoire, / Sur la table ou sur un bahut, / Mon tout petit chapeau pointu!". - Gilbert-Dreyfus, also known as Gilbert Debrise, was a survivor of the Nazi concentration camp of Mauthausen, where he was deported in 1944, having founded a resistance group in Saint-Tropez, the "Brigade des Maures". In his best-known book, "Cimetières sans tombeaux", he gives an account of his experiences of Nazi atrocities in the camp. After its liberation he acted as witness in the Mauthausen and Dachau trials in 1947. Dreyfus became an internationally renowned professor of endocrinology at the Hôpital de la Pitié in Paris and a holder of the Médaillé de la Résistance.
