Paperback. Condizione: Fine. 1st. 95 pages, colour illustrations; 24 cm. Firm binding, clean inside copy. *** "This book charts a project by London Fieldworks (Bruce Gilchrist and Jo Joelson) with the participation of internationally celebrated artist Gustav Metzger to create a sculptural work by linking a computer-brain interface with industrial manufacturing technology. Using bespoke software, London Fieldworks produced 3D shape information from EEG readings of Metzger's brainwaves as he attempted to think about nothing. This data was translated into instructions for a manufacturing robot, which carved out the shapes from the interior of a block of stone to create a void space. An introduction by the artists, a text by Gustav Metzger and four contextualising essays by writers across the fields of literature, art, science and technology explore the diverse historical and conceptual grounding for and broader implications of Null Object's production process." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: Artists' introduction, by London Fieldworks; Sculpting the void: between negation and abnegation, between action and absence, by Bronac Ferran; Writing about nothing, by Hari Kanzru; Null and objective: London Fieldworks and Metzger's brain, by Nick Lambert; Null object: prolegomena, by Christopher W Tyler; Empty and emptiness, and emptying, by Gustav Metzger. Size: 8vo. Collectible.

Aggiungi al carrelloIllustrated Card Cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This publication documents the formal twinning of the two mountain top observatories in Scotland and the Norwegian arctic in a special ceremony at the West Highland Museum in October 2004 and charts the development of the four-channel film work and sculptural installation. The observatories were on Ben Nevis and on Haldde and Talvik in Arctic Norway. There are chapters on Kristian Birkeland and C.T.Wilson (of the Wilson Cloud Chamber) who was intrigued and inspired on Ben Nevis in 1894 when briefly working at the observatory there. His ideas culminated in his invention of the "Wilson Cloud Chamber" which first demonstrated the tracks of elementary particles. "From Ben Nevis to Higgs Boson"! Little Earth is the second book by artists Bruce Gilchrist and Jo Joelson. It was published in 2005 to accompany the Little Earth exhibition. Little Earth is a collection of writings and documentation charting the development of the Little Earth project. It contains much of the project research and process with contributions by collaborators from the fields of the visual arts and physical sciences. Book near fine with slight edge wear only. No marks or signatures.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: New. The single largest category of Beowulf representation and adaptation, outside of direct translation of the poem, is children's literature. Over the past century and a half, more than 150 new versions of Beowulf directed to child and teen audiences have appeared, in English and in many other languages. In this collection of original essays, Bruce Gilchrist and Britt Mize examine the history and processes of remaking Beowulf for young readers. Inventive in their manipulations of story, tone, and genre, these adaptations require their authors to make countless decisions about what to include, exclude, emphasize, de-emphasize, and adjust. This volume considers the many forms of children's literature, focusing primarily on picture books, illustrated storybooks, and youth novels, but taking account also of curricular aids, illustrated full translations of the poem, and songs. Contributors address issues of gender, historical context, war and violence, techniques of narration, education, and nationalism, investigating both the historical and theoretical dimensions of bringing Beowulf to child audiences.
