Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. Date on the title page: MCMXXX. First Printing. Compiler's Note, Footnotes, " Epinicium Augustini," Ten Essays by: M.C. D'Arcy, Maurice Blondell, Christopher Dawson, Etienne Gilson, Jacques Maritain, C.C. Martindale, Erich Przywara, John-Baptist Reeves, Bernard Roland-Gosselin, and E.I. Watkin; Index; 367 pages. NOTE: This book is of mixed condition---The original navy-blue cloth is very good with some superficial spotting and only gentle bumps at the extremities; however, there is neat underlining, with pen, on a dozen or so pages, with pencil markings on about a dozen more. (No text is obscured.) Top edge is colored blue. There is a tiny bookseller's label (Blackwell) and a small unsigned plate at the front: "In Bookes for to Reede is my Delightynge / This book belongs to [no name filled in]" Just a touch of toning to the endpapers. [Please see my 6 images of the actual book.] This work "is dedicated to the more general aspects of St. Augustine's thought : to St. Augustine the Philosopher, the Sociologist and the Man of Letters, not to St. Augustine the Doctor of Grace and the Ecclesiologist. Indeed the latter aspects are so important and have given rise to such a vast specialized literature that it is necessary to devote a separate volume to them, which is already in preparation. The present volume rightly comes first as it attempts to evaluate the general influence which St. Augustine has had in Western thought and culture and his meaning for us at the present day." (From the compiler's note: T.F.B., page [7]) As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. …
