Titolo anticamente manoscr…itto al taglio disotto. Carattere corsivo, un poco di romano. Grandi capilettera istoriati e due diagrammi incisi nel testo al primo volume. Marche tipografiche ai frontespizi. Una copia eccellente, fresca e pulitissima. Prime ed uniche edizioni di queste traduzioni in volgare italiano di due importanti opere del medico greco Claudio Galeno, ovvero "Della conservazione della salute" e "Del conoscere e curare le infermità dell'animo", cavate dalla lingua originale da Giovanni Tarcagnota, umanista e antiquario di Gaeta. La prima opera include l'iniziale "placet" di papa Paolo III in latino e il privilegio di stampa, ed è dedicata dall'editore stampatore Michele Tramezzino a Domenico Veniero d'Andrea, a cui dichiara di aver già dedicato le opere su "il conservarsi la sanità" di Marsilio Ficino ed Arnaldo da Villanova da lui pubblicate. La seconda opera è dedicata a Francesco Gattola. L'Argelati (Biblioteca degli volgarizzatori, II, p.107) nota che quest'ultima è una "bella edizione accennata dal P. Paitoni, benchè appena". Nella famosa "Biographie Universelle" (Firenze, 1842, II, p. 932), tradotta da Felice Scifoni, si legge che, della prima opera, fu pubblicato un "Compendio" da Giuseppe Galeano a Palermo nel 1650, mentre la seconda viene definita "opuscolo pregevole e non comune". La prima opera solo quattro volte all'asta, l'ultima volta vent'anni fa, legata con la seconda, della quale non si registrano altri risultati su Rare Book Hub (Goldschmidt 1935; Sotheby's 1977; Swann Galleries 1979; Christie's 2000).
