Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the first modern edition of the collected writings of the 15th-century Italian humanist Paraclitus Malvezzi. The author's writings, primarily poetry and letters, provide a valuable perspective on the humanist movement and its impact on the Italian Renaissance. Born to a noble family around 1408, Malvezzi studied theology and philosophy, becoming a respected scholar and professor at the universities of Bologna and Siena. His humanistic pursuits, however, particularly his literary contributions, were primarily undertaken in his later years, in the decade following his elevation to the bishopric of Acerno in 1460. Influenced by figures like Pope Pius II and the humanist Lorenzo Valla, Malvezzi is often considered a transitional figure, bridging the early humanism of the 1400s and the high Renaissance of the 16th century. Through a detailed exploration of his poetic and epistolary works, this book sheds light on Malvezzi's intellectual development, his experience as a bishop in southern Italy, and the broader literary trends of the period.
