Autore di un'unica, calibratissima raccolta di liriche, singolarmente organica in un periodo in cui il libro di poesia si configura sempre più come una struttura aperta e ormai svincolata dal modello petrarchesco, il Preti sul piano stilistico subordina l'arguzia inventiva propria di tanti suoi contemporanei a una sorvegliata ed elegante compostezza. Lo «spirito delicatissimo» del bolognese - la definizione è del Marino - trova piena espressione tanto nelle composizioni amorose, unite dal Leit-motiv dell'«amor pudico» (singolare in un periodo di prevalente sensualismo) quanto nella sua opera più celebre, l'idillio La Salmace, brillante riscrittura della favola ovidiana di Salmace ed Ermafrodito, che anticipa non pochi aspetti della sensibilità settecentesca. Seguace del Marino, Girolamo Preti (Bologna, 1582 circ…a - 1626) fu alla corte degli Estensi e poi al seguito del cardinale Barberini, con cui si traferì in Spagna ove morì a Barcellona. Oltre alle presenti "Poesie", pubblicate la prima volta nel 1614, fu apprezzato traduttore e compose l'idillio "La Salmace" (1609) di ispirazione ovidiana. > Vinciana, 2574-2576, citando altre edizioni, "La raccolta comprende sonetti, canzoni, idilli, componimenti in ottava rima.". 100 gr.

La prima edizione e' del 1621.
