Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Cement' is a seminal work of Soviet literature and a cornerstone of the Socialist Realist genre. Set in the immediate aftermath of the Russian Civil War, the novel follows Gleb Chumalov, a Red Army veteran who returns to his provincial home to find the local cement factory-once the heart of the community-idle and decaying. As Gleb struggles to navigate the bureaucratic hurdles and physical exhaustion required to revive the industrial plant, he must also confront the radical changes within his own family. His wife, Dasha, has evolved from a traditional domestic figure into a dedicated political activist, reflecting the broader social transformations of the early Soviet era.Through vivid depictions of labor and communal struggle, Feodor Vasilievich Gladkov captures the grit and determination of a society attempting to rebuild itself from the ruins of war. The narrative explores themes of industrialization, the changing roles of women, and the personal sacrifices demanded by collective progress. A powerful testament to the proletarian spirit, 'Cement' remains an essential text for understanding the literary and historical landscape of the early 20th century. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. FIRST UK EDITION. First published in 1925, this is considered the first piece of socialist realist fiction and was upheld by the Writers' Congress in the USSR as a key exemplar of the form. The book follows Gleb Chumalov, a Red Army veteran who returns home after the Russian Civil War to find his town and its cement factory in ruins. Determined to rebuild the factory, Gleb struggles against bureaucracy, shortages, political opposition and the lingering violence of the Civil War. As the factory is gradually restored, the novel presents the physical reconstruction of Soviet industry as a symbol of the larger attempt to build a new Communist society. It is scarcely seen in such fine condition, while the spine is darkened here it is usually found worn out or detached. BOOK: Publisher's pictorial cloth boards; square and sound, darkened to spine, bit of wear to spine ends; contents toned (very low quality paper stock). Distinctive avant-garde/constructivist cover illustration by 'E. Verney'. Priced 'three & six' to head of spine; later issues had a 1s price label.…
