Aggiungi al carrelloCloth. Condizione: Very Good. None Stated (illustratore). First edition. A privately printed first edition of Gore"s Boer War account of the 5th Dragoon Guards at Ladysmith, written from direct experience, illustrated with plates and a folding map. In the publisher's original red cloth bindnig. First edition. Printed for private circulation. Illustrated with seven monochrome plates, including a frontispiece, and a folding colour map to the rear. Collated, complete. An interesting Boer War regimental account of the 5th Dragoon Guards during the Ladysmith campaign, written from Gore"s own experience and incorporating accounts from other officers. Gore states in his preface that he kept the record during the siege partly to preserve the "little things" of regimental life. Sir St John Corbet Gore (1859-1949) was a career cavalry officer in the 5th Dragoon Guards. He served in the Sudan Expedition of 1884 and, during the South African War, fought at Elandslaagte and Lombard"s Kop and was present at the Siege of Ladysmith. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, more so to spine ends, resulting in minor loss to cloth. One or two minor spots of damp staining to front board. Spine faded. Light scattered spotting to endpapers. Previous owner's small ink inscription to head of front paste down, dated 1952. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but firm. Pages bright and lean with the odd spot. Very Good. book.
