They all joined the AIF (Harold with the 3rd Battalion, Wally in the 24th Company of the Army Service Corps, Bill - a veteran of the Boer War - enlisted in the 2nd Battalion before transferring to the 54th Battalion, and later after injury and recuperation became a reinforcement of the 33rd Battalion, and Arthur served with the 20th Battalion and the 2nd Pioneer Battalion) and wrote constantly of their experiences.
