"Im Jahre 1900 verwendete Walter Hermann Heineke (1834-1901) an der Klinik in Erlangen Zangen, die er ins Fersenbein einsetzte um einen Längszug bei Unterschenkelbrüchen auszuüben (Graser, E.: Die Kalkaneuszange nach v. Heinecke, ein Vorläufer der Nagelextension zur Behandlung von Knochenbrüchen. Mün. med. VVschr. 57 (1910): 692). Er benützte die Zange jedoch nur zur Reposition. Nach dem Anlegen und Erhärten des Gipsverbandes wurde sie wieder entfernt. Im Gips konnte sich die Fraktur neuerlich verkürzen.".
