Greeting card. Condizione: Very Good. N.p., n.d. 7 1/8 x 4 5/8". Embossed blue and white scalloped card over-laid with paper lace, color cut-out of young man with card and bouquet of flowers in central oval, color cut-outs of bouquets on either side of him, cut-out of two cherubs below (one may be missing an arm), upper cut-out of sword, shield, and plumed helmet, with text, "I live for thee." Inside text in red and printed on separate sheet, "True Love," three verses. Very good condition.

Folio. 11.5 x 14 x 2.5 in. [1], 44, [1] leaves w/ 63 tipped-in sample greeting cards, of varying sizes, and with envelopes. Brown linen 7 ring binder, red & white lettering, red & white illustration of Little Angel by Barbara Schaffer (slight shelfwear, couple minor tears to a couple samples), still a VG copy. First edition of this greeting card trade catalogue with samples tipped in by such artists as David Forer, Barbara Schaffer, Syverson, and others. Barbara Schaffer was an in-house artist of the David Forer & Company greeting card company who developed the original Little Angel character for the company's "Joy" line of cards. Along with the Little Angele character cards, there are many other humorous Christmas cards included in this catalogue from other in-house artists, with assorted holiday themes. Forer was founded in 1949 in Van Nuys by David & Margery Forer and operated by them until 1992 when they retired.

Four items, part manuscript, glued together at top corner, as follows: a. Signed Statement by Hampton & Larzelere, Custom House Brokers, 402 Library Street,Philadelphia, verifying the Invoice, one page, 8vo; b. Invoice, detailed and heavy with official stamps and signatures (all parties). one page 4to. See Image; c. Oath and Declaration by the owner and Manufacturer, and by Joshua Nunn, Deoutyt-Consul-General of the United States of America, for Great Britain and Ireland at London, one page, 4to (with embossed USA stamp); One minor contents page, 4to. Mainly scrap boosk listed but also "Reward Packets" and Walter Crane's "Mrs Mundi at Home" (25 copies). Note: a. Walter Crane's brother, Thomas, was Art Director at Marcus Ward; b. "In the 1860s Marcus Ward & Co began mass-producing calendars and greeting cards. Initially they printed cards for other publishers such as Charles Goodall & Son and Charles Bennett. By the late 1860s they began printing greeting cards under their own name. This venture turned out to be very successful, the company engaging Thomas Crane as artistic director and talented artists such as Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane as illustrators. In the early years of card production they marked the reverse with their trademark. In later years the company name was printed on the front side of their greeting cards." [Wikipedia].

Condition: a few of the cards have separated (in two pieces), but, in general, this group is a lively collection with lots of color printing, many remarkable designs and poetic quips, humor. Album is bound in contemporary quarter black calf, gilt tooled bands, black pebbled cloth, calf corners; extremities worn, front joint cracked (mended with kozo). Very good. One "Souvenir Amitie" is a pop-up variety of expensive card with a 3-dimension image of a young woman on a golden chariot, with two swans toting the carriage/chariot, floating on a river with rows of flowers and trees, the back-drop with a landscape setting. Dodds, Muriel, Frank, Mary Hutchinson, Kathleen, Jessie, Eveline, Helen, Gertrude Whitaker, Violette, Frank, Dona Sankey, Lilly, Auntie Blanche, Daisy Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. G. Leopold Caird, etc. All should be family, relatives or friends of the de Henseler family who later relocated to Switzerland. / "Feathers and Fashions" by Rev. Frederick Langbridge, is printed in Germany. / Eugene Eric de Henseler ["Eric"], born in Fribourg, 1889 and died in Geneva, 1960. Of a Swiss family originating from Bremgarten, Aarau/Argovie, he was partly educated in Great Britain and also in Fribourg and Lausanne. He was awarded a Ph.D. by the University of Fribourg in 1928 and his doctoral thesis was 'L'ame et le dogme de la transmigration dans les livres sacres de l'Inde ancienne.' He was an active member of the 'Societe theosophique' in Geneva and frequently contributed to articles on theosophy.

A plain dark buff scrapbook containing 40 examples of cards from a card company. Circa 1930. Some cards have envelopes. Prices per gross are given beneath. These higher end cards had ribbons and folds and often extra layers within. Two of the cards had been slightly damaged by being partially stuck to each other but the others are fine.
