Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Loose sheets of card, film notes done by hand are printed with plates in colour. Fine. These are in a box with a small tear at the fore-edge. Otherwise only minor marks. Included, loosely inserted, is an essay by Markopoulos on Beavers work,"Art Is Not Knowledge", in a limited ed. of 100 copies. It is presented by its author to Lady Casson, on 4th Jan 1975. The covers of 'Art is Not Knowledge' are clean and white, fine. These items would seem to have been produced at different times but may well have been presented to friends together with the original publication of the Film Notes and Plates for Still Light, as I have seen the essay with another copy. Acquired from Maude Lloyd, an admired leading dancer with Ballet Rambert in the 1930s. With her husband, Nigel Gosling a renowned art critic, she later wrote, influential dance books and reviews under the joint pseudonym, 'Alexander Bland'. When Rudolph Nureyev defected in 1961, Margot Fonteyn asked them to befriend him which they gladly did offering him freedom of their house. Gosling edited his autobiography. Nureyev wrote an admiring memoir of him in Observer of the Dance anthologising Goslings reviews, "He and Maude were like my family.". Signed by Author(s).

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Loose sheets in a printed box. Being card film notes done by hand and photographed here. They are printed with photo-plates in colour. Near fine. The loose sheef of pages with the half-title is signed there by Robert Beaver and dated 14th June 1971. The box has a small closed tear at the fore-edge and at the foot of the spine. Some minor marks. Otherwise box very good indeed. They detail the making of the 25 minute film Still Light which was shot in 35mm. Included, loosely inserted is an essay by Markopoulos "Art Is Not Knowledge" in a limited ed. of 100 copies. It is presented by him to Maude and Nigel Gosling on 28th Dec, 1974. Also enclosed is a postcard to Nigel Gosling from Robert Beaver, dated 14th June 1971 from Firenze saying the book is on its way and he hopes Gosling will be pleased with his own appearance in it. (There are numerous references to 'Nigel' in the notes for the film and one of the plates has a head shot which is very like a rear view of Nigel Gosling, titled as some others are, "The Critical Spectator". Also, a large leaf two page letter, from Gregory Markopoulos in Firenze where both he and Robert Beaver are woking. It is dated 17th June 1971 and signed, "Gregory". It is on two spare leaves from the book - one showing a photo of Robert Beaver and the other the possible shot of Nigel Gosling. The text has been typed around these images. Markopoulos refers to Margot Fonteyn and Nureyev. He discusses film, writers, and their books, good and awful. Also another letter in its airmail envelope, from Robert Beaver, 1pp typed and signed, "Robert", dated 12th July 1971 from Zurich. He discusses a new film project and ICA funding etc. Though produced at different times these items - the boxed Film Notes and Plates and the essay by Markopoulos - were probably issued together, as I have seen both in another boxed set. Loosely inserted is a 'filmpodium' program of film events, for 1971, hosted by Cinéma Radium. of Zurich Three films of Beaver are included for showing during October. Also others by renowned independent film makers. The additional items all indicate that Gosling was intimately connected with both the making, funding and promotion of the film. Finally a Press Release, dated 12th March 1974, by the Royal College of Art, for a showing of two films by Gerald Newman, called, 'Sea-Beach' and 'Air'.
