Crisp blue end papers with blue ribbon page marker. Illustrated with portrait frontispiece. The book has beautiful gilt fore and top edges and contains a few full photographic plates and double illustrated plates. Bernard William Cardinal Griffin (February 21, 1899August 19, 1956) was an English prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Westminster from 1943 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1946. Griffin was created Cardinal Priest of Ss. Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio by Pius XII in the consistory of February 18, 1946. He acted as papal legate to the centennial celebration of the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England in 1950. Griffin died from a heart attack in New Polzeath, at age 57. He is buried at Westminster Cathedral. 'It is the compiler's hope that this method will serve to present a comprehensive survey of the attitude adopted by His Eminence Cardinal Griffin to the many problems existing in the world today.' In a full vellum binding. There is very little wear to the extremities and the binding is in good condition apart from some mild spotting to the rear cover and spine. The binding is tight and firm and both covers are firmly attached. Internally the book is extremely clean and bright with the occasional handling mark. The bottom edge is rough cut. Very Good. book.
