Baglione era infatti un pittore che molto lavorò nella Roma di primo Seicento e conobbe tutti i protagonisti di quell'epoca d'oro, basti ricordare Caravaggio. Le vivaci e fitte postille di Resta, milanese di origine ma lungamente attivo a Roma nella congregazione dei padri dell'Oratorio della Chiesa Nuova, sono una miniera di indicazioni sulla storia della pittura italiana dal tardo Cinquecento al Seicento e contengono innumerevoli notizie sulla circolazione di disegni di maestri antichi e contemporanei.
