It?s not a spy thriller (sorry), but it is the intellectual scaffolding behind a whole era of policy. Reflections on: Britain?s strategic position (spoiler: island, useful but awkward), the state of Europe, the role of the Commonwealth and colonies, and the dawning realisation that the United States is now That Guy.
