About the book >.>.> The dictionary then goes on to offer a second definition of scenography, glossing it in this case as a technique which does not require… the precision and the care of line drawing. Scenography undergoes a change of register here, and moves from the realm of the architect and the draughtsman to that of the puppeteer to become scene painting. The dictionary defines this as scene painting; in other words, large-format paintings on the backcloths used in the theatre to create a realistic setting-distinct and separate from the space of everyday life- in which the actors, in their roles as fictional characters, can move about freely. It is almost as if this clearly delimited setting which accommodates the dramatic action had an identity of its own, set apart from the world of human beings but at the same time connected to it by the proscenium arch of the stage mouth, wide open like the mouth of an enthralled spectator or a huckster in full flow. Why should scenography be associated with both firmitas, with solidity, stren.
