Genau läßt sich das durch die ja allein mögliche äußere Untersuchung nicht feststellen. Die Fadenumwicklung, mit der man den Körper dieses Aufsatzstückes befestigt hat, war anscheinend noch mit einer harzartigen Masse überzogen. Ebenso hat man den Eindruck, als ob an dem inneren Ende sich noch ein vielleicht schräg nah aufwärts gerichteter Ansatz befunden hat, so daß der ganze Aufsatz im allgemeinen etwa den sonst bekannt gewordenen entsprochen haben dürfte. Dem hier vorliegenden Stück gibt aber die Gesichtsdarstellung eine besondere Bedeutung. Was ihr Sinn ist, wissen wir natürlich nicht. Im Zusammenhange mit der sonstigen besonderen Ausstattung könnte man jedoch mit einem gewissen Rechte annehmen, daß es sich nicht um ein gewöhnliches Gebrauchsgerät handelt. Ein mit Obsidianklinge versehener Dolch, wie der hier abgebildete aus Paracas (Abb. 3), in dem wir vielleicht mit noch mehr Recht ein Opfermesser sehen können, ist bisher noch nicht bekannt geworden. Eine genaue Untersuchung der Einzelheiten des Stückes ist schwer möglich, ohne es zu beschädigen. Aber man kann doch auch durch die äußere Betrachtung schon ein ungefähres Bild von seinem Aufbau gewinnen. Die Form des unteren Endes der Obsidianklinge dürfte der zweier ungeschäfteter Stücke der Sammlung Rödinger entsprechen, die ich hier ebenfalls abbilde (Abb. 3 c, d). Die Klinge ist auf dem Stiele offenbar durch Holzstreifen befestigt, die mit einer auch die Zwischenräume ausfüllenden harzartigen Masse überzogen sind. Darüber ist das Baumwollgewebe gelegt, das auch nach abwärts den Handgriff umgibt und unten noch einen Kranz von Faultierhaaren trägt. Diese Faultierhaare sind durch eine Holzspanumwicklung festgehalten, die wohl ursprünglich bis zu einer in den Haarkranz eingedrückten Ringfurche nach abwärts gereicht hat. Die Faser der Baumwollfäden zeigt nach der Unter suchung in dem Institut für angewandte Botanik1, wo auch die Haare als Faultierhaare bestimmt wurden, starke Altersveränderungen. Über die Verbreitung der Keulen mit sternförmigem Kopf hatte ich oben schon eine kurze Bemerkung gemacht. Sie bedarf einer neuen eingehenden Untersuchung unter Heranziehung der gesamten in den Museen vorhandenen Stücke. Das gleiche gilt von den Pfeilschleudern. Die hier behandelte Pfeils.
