Es ist das groBe und bleibende Verdienst von R. CASTAING und A. GUINIER, uns durch Schaffung eines ge eigneten Gerates den Elekt…ronenstrahl als brauchbares 'Reagens' auch zur quantitativen Analyse in die Hand gegeben zu haben. Selbstverstandlich waren die Erfahrungen, die bei der Erzeugung von Elektronenmikroskopen gemacht wurden, eine wesentliche Voraussetzung zum Bau eines Elektronenstrahl-Mikro analysators oder einer 'Mikrosonde', wie ein derartiges Gerat auch oft genannt wird (Microprobe-analyzer, microsonde electronique), doch muBte auch die moderne Rontgenspektroskopie in geeigneter Form herangezogen werden, um ein 'Analysengerat' zu schaffen, das heute bereits weitgehend programmierte Arbeitsschritte selbsttatig tun kann. Das Anwendungsgebiet der Elektronenstrahl-Mikroanalyse reicht jetzt schon von der qualitativen Untersuchung einer Elementverteilung bis zu quantitativen Punktanalysen im Mikrometerbereich. Bei geeigneter Praparationstechnik kann auBer der hervorragend geeigneten metallischen Untersuchungsprobe auch nichtmetallisches, biologisches, medizinisches und mineralogisches Probegut untersucht werden. Das vorliegende Buch solI eine Einfiihrung in diese faszinierende Arbeits technik sein und zeigen, daB zwar der Elektronenstrahl die maBgebende Rolle spielt, daB aber auch andere Faktoren, wie z. B. Probenhomogenitat und Proben oberflache, ahnlich groBe Bedeutung haben, da das MeBsignal ein Ergebnis aus den Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Probe und Elektronenstrahl ist. Weiters solI dargelegt werden, daB nicht nur die erzeugten Rontgenstrahlen zur analytischen Aussage herangezogen werden konnen, sondern auch andere Erscheinungen, wie Elektronen- und Rontgenstrahlenabsorption. Dieses Symposium hatte mehrere Ziele. Die wichtigsten waren: Herrn Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hecht anlaBlich seines 70. Geburtstages zu ehren und seine bisherigen wissen schaftlichen und utopisch-wissenschaftlich-belletri stischen Arbeiten zu wurdigen, den derzeitigen Standort der analytischen Chemie in der Gesamtproblematik der Er forschung extraterrestrischen Materials festzulegen, so wie zukunftige Arbeitsrichtungen und Aspekte zu erkunden Wenn man bedenkt, daB zur materiellen Erfassung und zum Verstandnis geochemischer und kosmochemischer Vor gange der uns zugangliche 'Mikrokosmos' als Modell der zeit noch immer geeigneter erscheint als der direkte VorstoB in galaktische Raume, so wird man vielleicht einsehen, daB gerade der mikrochemisch geschulte und ambitionierte Analytiker zur Aufklarung der uns bewegen den Fragen Wesentliches beitragen kann.
