An die Redaktion der Allgemeinen Zeitung in Augsburg: "Der Unterzeichnete erlaubt sich hi[e]rmit die Bitte zu stellen, nachfolgendem Aufsatze Raum zu gestatten in Ihrer berühmten Zeitschrift, um Verdächtigungen zu begegnen über ein von mir mit großen Opfern hergestelltes Werk, worüber berühmte Gelehrte wie Dr. Titus D…obler, Hofrath von Schubert und Professor Fallmerayer so anerkennend ausgezeichnete Aufsätze früher der allgemeinen Zeitung einreichten [.]". - Auf 1½ SS. folgt der von Halbreiter verfaßte, "Das Kunstgemälde von Jerusalem betreffend" betitelte Aufsatz. - Als Schüler Joseph Schlotthauers (1789-1869) an der Münchner Kunstakademie studierend, begleitete Halbreiter seinen Lehrer 1834 nach Italien und war anschließend, nach Deutschland zurückgekehrt, an der Ausmalung der Basilika St. Bonifatius unter Heinrich Maria von Hess (1798-1863) sowie der Ludwigskirche unter Peter von Cornelius (1783-1867) beteiligt. 1842 gemeinsam mit dem Architekten Friedrich von Gärtner (1792-1847) in Athen tätig, arbeitete an der Ausführung der Fresken für die dortige kgl. Residenz mit und unternahm 1843-45 eine Reise nach Ägypten, Palästina und Kleinasien. Skizzen aus Jerusalem verarbeitete er, unterstützt von August Löffler (1822-1866), Ferdinand Piloty d. J. (1828-1895) und Theodor Horschelt (1829-1871), zu einem großen Panorama, das im Lateran aufgestellt wurde. Der Onkel des Bildhauers und Goldschmieds Adolph Halbreiter (1839-1898) versuchte sich auch als Komponist (u. a. "Bayerische Gebirgslieder", 3 Hefte, 1839). Vgl.
