Aggiungi al carrelloCloth. Condizione: Good. First edition. The signed first edition of a whimsical romance considered the most beautiful work by prolific Irish novelist Anna Maria Hall. The first edition of Midsummer Eve: A Fairy Tale of Love, written and signed by Irish novelist by Anna Maria Hall as Mrs. S.C. Hall. In the publisher's decorative…original green cloth. Contains an engraved frontispiece, numerous in-text engravings and eleven other engraved plates by various illustrators, including J. Noel Paton and F.W. Fairholt. Collated complete. Contains Hall's singed inscription to a Mrs. White to the front free end paper, offering her best wishes. Described as the most beautiful of her works, Midsummer Eve is a romantic tale of whimsy and fantasy, a contrast to her historical novels The Bucaneer and The Outlaw. Married to Victorian art journalist and editor of the Art Journal Samuel Carter, her work was often adorned with many of the most talented illustrators of the period. In the publisher's decorative original green cloth. Externally, ink blotches to boards, mostly to the front board. Fading to the spine, light to board extremities. Slight rubbing to joints and edges. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Yellow end papers are bright and mostly clean with a couple of spots to the extremities. Previous owner's ink inscriptions to front pastedown and verso of frontispiece. Torn binding stamp to rear pastedown. Hall's inscription to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound, with minor wear to hinges between 112-113, and 134-135. Pages are bright and mostly clean, with the odd spot to first couple and final leaves, and faint age toning to leaf extremities. Good. Various [inc. J. Noel Paton and F.W. Fairholt] (illustratore). signed by author. book.
