A collection of six essays by William Halse Rivers Rivers, [ 1864 - 1922 ] who is perhaps best known for his work treating First World War officers who were suffering from shell shock. Rivers' most famous patient was the poet Siegfried Sassoon. In Sassoon's autobiography ( written under the guise of The Memoirs of George Sherston) Rivers is one of the few characters to retain their original names. There is a whole chapter devoted to Rivers and he is immortalised by Sassoon as a near demi-god who saved his life and his soul. 475 grams.

Colour photographs, b/w illustrations, maps. Red cloth, upper board and spine titled in gilt. Issued without a dust-wrapper. Edition limited to 1500 copies. A fine un-numbered copy from an edition of 1500. This 29th edition was compiled by Tammy Pereira and edited by Jane Halse. "Rowland Ward's Records of Big Game is known worldwide as the original Record Book. It was first published in 1892, and quickly became the standard among sportsmen and naturalists. It contains detailed descriptions of the various game species and their distributions, habitats, and sizes; it also contains the measurements of the finest specimens taken since the early 18th century, such as the number 1 and 2 elephants with tusks of 226 and 214 lbs. and 198 and 174 lbs., respectively. There are approximately 45,000 records in this Africa volume, many with illustrations of skulls and horns and photos of actual specimens. This new 29th edition contains Rowland Ward's new measuring methods, which are significantly different from those of the past. Trophies will still be ranked by the largest horn or spread, but a new composite measurement will be listed with each entry. The composite record will help give a better picture of the animal's score vis a vis other systems and also will give a much better idea of the trophy's overall dimensions. This edition contains the African species only." This is an out-of-series copy of the cloth-bound edition that states a limitation of only 1500 numbered copies. PREVIOUS PRICE GBP 100.00.
