Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating journey into the heart of Britain's naval administration, exploring the evolution of its organization and revealing the complex workings of the Admiralty Board. The author delves into the historical development of the system, tracing its roots back to the medieval era and showcasing how it was shaped by changing circumstances. The reader is taken through centuries of maritime history, witnessing the rise and fall of influential figures like the Earl of Warwick and Lord St. Vincent, who battled corruption and inefficiency within the Navy Board. The book shines a light on the Admiralty Patent, the legal document that outlines the Board's powers, and contrasts it with the actual practices that have evolved over time. The author highlights the anomaly of the First Lord's supreme authority, a position that has been shaped by long-standing usage rather than explicit legal definition. By examining the historical and legal intricacies of the Admiralty, the book unveils a system that has been shaped by both tradition and necessity, offering a unique perspective on the complex interplay of power, responsibility, and efficiency in the management of a nation's naval forces.
