Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Evolution has gotten us this far. Design may take it from here. Aimed at raising awareness about genetic engineering, biotechnologies, and their consequences through the lens of art and design, Art's Work in the Age of Biotechnology: Shaping Our Genetic Futures is an art-science exhibition curated by Hannah Star Rogers and organized by the NC State University Libraries and the Genetic Engineering and Society Center, and shown at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design, in the physical and digital display spaces of the Libraries, and on the grounds of the North Carolina Museum of Art.By combining science and art and design, artists offer new insights about genetic engineering by bringing it out of the lab and into public places to challenge viewers' understandings about the human condition, the material of our bodies, and the consequences of biotechnology. Exhibition participants include Kirsten Stolle, Paul Vanouse, Adam Zaretsky, Joe Davis, Emilia Tikka, Emeka Ikebude, Jennifer Willet, Charlotte Jarvis, Maria McKinney, Ciara Redmond, Aaron Ellison, David Buckley Borden, Joel Ong, and others. By combining science and art and design, artists offer new insights about genetic engineering by bringing it out of the lab and into public places to challenge viewers' understandings about the human condition, the material of our bodies, and the consequences of biotechnology. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book argues for the role of curators as knowledge-makers across a number of fields. While the focus is on multidisciplinary curators, particularly those who work with combinations of science, technology, and art, it also points toward the history of curation to tease out the ways that multidisciplinary work has always been part of the collectors, and later, the curators role, functionally integrating curatorial and interdisciplinary studies. This novel application of Art, Science, and Technology Studies (ASTS) ideas to curatorial studies is timely because it reaches beyond the analysis of the use of images by scientists or the ways art may be employed to improve the public understanding of science to offer a much-needed explanation of how actors position their work as art or science, considering the persistence of overlapping practices used in both communities. By providing an interdisciplinary look at curatorial practice in the context of the ASTS idea of knowledge-making, this book will be singular in the field. What Curators Know will appeal to scholars of ASTS, the history of art, the history of science, museology, and visual culture as well as museum professionals, curators, and policymakers. The book engages literature in the contemporary arts, digital culture, computing history, medical humanities, media arts, museum studies, natural history, and political and public art. Practitioners working in curatorial or curatorial-adjacent professions, as well as administrators with art and science interests, will also find the text useful. A singular collection of essays that provide an interdisciplinary look at curatorial practice in the context of Sciences Technology Studies. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Curation is a way of knowing. Curators work with objects and texts to offer perspectives on the world, situating not only things but also their contexts in material, rhetorical, and aesthetic forms. Curators cross disciplinary boundaries, challenge conventional narratives, and open space for new understandings. Their work shows how scientific and aesthetic knowledges are constructed, communicated, and experienced.Nowhere are these challenges more visible than in art-science exhibitions. This volume explores how curators draw on Science and Technology Studies (STS) to synthesize subjects ranging from health complexity to nuclear energy, from communication technologies and computing histories to meat and eternal life. In doing so, they reveal the dynamic role of curatorship in shaping how we think, feel, and know.…
