Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Memories of Manhattan in the Sixties and Seventies' provides an evocative and detailed account of New York City life during a pivotal period of growth and transformation. Written by Charles Townsend Harris, this work offers a personal look at the streets, buildings, and social atmosphere…of Manhattan in the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Through a series of vivid recollections, Harris captures the essence of a city transitioning into a global metropolis, detailing the unique characters and neighborhood landmarks that defined the urban landscape before the turn of the century.Focusing on the 1860s and 1870s, the narrative explores the daily rhythms of life, from the bustling commerce of the docks to the developing social circles of the city's residential districts. The work serves as both a cultural history and a nostalgic tribute to a bygone era, providing readers with insights into the customs, fashions, and local happenings of the Gilded Age. For historians and enthusiasts of urban development, 'Memories of Manhattan in the Sixties and Seventies' remains a valuable primary source that documents the charm and complexity of old New York through the eyes of one of its devoted inhabitants. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
